Small architecture

Small architecture

Small architecture is a concept under which small public utility buildings, such as park benches, garbage cans, parking posts and blockades, or garden such as gazebos, fountains, flower pots and others, are concealed. These elements play not only a functional role, but also an aesthetic one. Usually, these are not individual objects, but a series of devices and structures forming a coherent whole, enhancing the aesthetics of public space.

Utility functions of small architecture.

As we have already mentioned, street furniture, apart from the decor, fulfills mainly utility functions. These are the elements that enable residents to rest and recreation. In this group, we can put benches with and without a back, playgrounds, fountains, sandboxes. The urban space also abounds in elements that help to keep it clean. These are all kinds of garbage cans. Another group of objects are those increasing safety by separating a certain space, e.g. pedestrianized traffic, e.g. barriers and protections, road bollards and lanterns.

Street furniture & ndash; a function that enhances the aesthetics of public and private space

Apart from functional functions, small architecture objects can significantly improve the aesthetics of the surroundings. Thanks to the coherent design of the group of elements, we can achieve the harmony of a certain space, e.g. the use of identical or similar benches throughout the park as well as other elements in the environment, e.g. a garbage can and a lantern. These can be steel elements as well as joining wood with a forged metal structure or a more modern one made of closed profiles.

small architecture benches and garbage cans

We design and manufacture elements of small architecture. We have successfully made and installed garden benches with and without a back, as well as garbage cans made in a modern style. Photographs of the works performed can be found in our gallery

It is worth mentioning that landscaping objects on private land, unlike public (municipal) ones, do not require a notification or a building permit. Thanks to this, we have a lot of freedom in shaping our own space, which we can arrange immediately after making a decision, without waiting for the formalities to be completed. Restrictions on mounting small architecture objects

Finally, it should be mentioned that the construction law imposes certain restrictions on the location and size of the object - in small architecture, e.g. gazebos cannot be higher than 5 m if they have a gable roof, and if the roof has a different shape, its height cannot exceed 4m. The number of small architecture objects cannot be greater than 2 for every 500 sq m. surface.

For this, please keep appropriate distances from the plot border:

4 meters from the border to the wall of the gazebo facing the border, on which there are windows or the entrance to the gazebo.
3 m from the border to the wall of the gazebo without windows
1.5 m  from the plot border if the neighbor has located the same object on his plot at the same distance.
